Trelleborg launches advanced SafeCaptain P-Series navigation units

Trelleborg Marine and Infrastructure, leading supplier of critical solutions for marine, port and built infrastructure, has launched its advanced SafeCaptain P-Series fixed navigation units, comprising the P1 and P1+ systems.

Building on the proven success of the SafePilot P3 navigation unit that is widely adopted for Panama Canal transits, the new P1 and P1+ units directly address escalating maritime safety challenges including aging fleet infrastructure, growing GNSS interference threats and the critical need for reliable navigation systems in an increasingly complex global shipping environment. They integrate seamlessly with Trelleborg's SafeCaptain navigation software, forming a comprehensive ecosystem that delivers real-time vessel data and intuitive chart annotation capabilities for enhanced situational awareness.
 


As vessel traffic surges in congested ports and waterways worldwide, the maritime industry confronts significant operational challenges. According to DNV's Maritime Safety Trends report, maritime safety incidents increased 42% between 2018 and 2024, with vessels over 25 years old accounting for 41% of all reported incidents. Operators managing aging fleets require cost-effective modernization solutions, while GNSS spoofing and jamming attacks, which the European Union Aviation Safety Agency reports have notably increased since February 2022 in conflict zones, pose documented risks to vessel safety and operational security.

With a 200-meter Wi-Fi range, the P1 enables remote monitoring capabilities while allowing captains to manually annotate and update charts in real-time, addressing the persistent industry challenge of outdated or incomplete nautical charts.



Building on the P1's foundation, the advanced P1+ unit incorporates comprehensive anti-jamming and spoofing protection technologies. As GNSS interference threats continue to evolve and intensify globally, the P1+ ensures incorruptible navigation data delivery, providing superior positioning accuracy critical for safe operations in high-risk environments.



The SafeCaptain P-Series units complement Trelleborg's established navigation solutions, including the SafePilot P3 unit, which has demonstrated proven reliability in Panama Canal transits and is fully compliant with the Panama Canal Authority's positioning requirements for Neopanamax vessels. 



These units integrate seamlessly with Trelleborg's SafeCaptain ecosystem, creating a unified navigation solution from a single trusted supplier. This integrated approach ensures compatibility across both fixed and portable systems while providing continuous software and firmware updates to maintain system reliability and security.

The modular design philosophy allows operators to begin with the P1's essential capabilities and upgrade to the P1+ advanced features as operational requirements evolve.
