MNWB welcomes new UK Prime Minister into office

The Merchant Navy Welfare Board (MNWB), the umbrella charity for the UK Merchant Navy and fishing fleets, is welcoming the new Prime Minister, Andy Burnham, into office.

MNWB Chief Executive Stuart Rivers said: "MNWB welcomes the appointment of Andy Burnham as the new Prime Minister and looks forward to working with the new Government to ensure the needs of seafarers and fishers are given the priority they deserve.

“In our role as the UK’s National Seafarers’ Welfare Board and umbrella charity representing 47 organisations supporting seafarers, fishers and their dependents, we believe this is an opportunity for a renewed focus on those who work at sea and the families who depend on them.

“Seafarers and fishers play a vital role in keeping global trade moving and delivering the goods on which our economy relies. Their contribution must be recognised through strong support, fair policies and a clear commitment to their welfare."
