Norse Ship Management emerges as a digital leader among new-generation ship managers
Norse Ship Management has expanded its use of Smart Ship Hub’s high frequency sensor data and performance platform across its fleet as part of its ongoing move toward more structured, transparent and digitally supported ship management.
The rollout marks a further step in Norse’s development as one of the emerging, digitally focused ship management companies in the sector.
Several Norse-managed vessels are now operating with Smart Ship Hub’s Vessel Reporting System (VRS) for automated and standardised noon reports, Voyage Performance Monitoring (VPM), and weather routing tools. In addition, a number of ships have been fitted with high-frequency sensor data system “Remote’, supporting predictive maintenance, machinery condition monitoring, power, fuel analytics, emissions reporting and real-time diagnostics.
Following their strategic partnership formed earlier this year, DNV and Smart Ship Hub jointly highlighted Norse for its approach to digitalisation, citing its structured data collection and integration of automated reporting processes across vessel operations.
The adoption of high-frequency data, combined with automated reporting and data quality tools, has allowed Norse to consolidate information into a consistent operational framework. This has strengthened data integrity across daily workflows, including noon reporting, emissions submissions and machinery health monitoring. These systems are enabling Norse to move closer to a unified operational dataset, giving shore teams actionable insights, near-real-time visibility of performance trends, equipment condition and voyage outcomes.
Capt. Akshay Yadava (pictured), Managing Director of Norse Ship Management, said: “Smart Ship Hub has paved the digital roadmap for Norse, saving precious man hours and making our shore-based operations agile. Starting from DCS reporting, to ensuring error free submissions, to weather-based routeing and ensuring vessel performance including fuel, hull and machinery reliability : we are increasingly moving towards 'digital first' and in turn extending best in class ship management processes to our customers.”
Joy Basu, CEO of Smart Ship Hub, said: “Norse is part of a new wave of ship managers adopting digital systems early and embedding them across day-to-day operations. The company has been clear in its objective to build a data-led operations framework, and the platform has been configured to support that approach.”
Smart Ship Hub Digital platform taps in real time data from AMS, main engine, flowmeters, shaft power meters, pumps, DG, navigation systems, scrubber, cargo equipment, and other onboard equipment. Combined with noon data, operational logs and Camera AI data feeds, the 'all in one' digital platform provides insights and decision support for fuel performance, hull condition, main engine performance, anomalies in varying weather and load conditions. This data also underpins voyage performance assessments, weather-based routing decisions and emissions reporting. Predictive models and machinery condition indicators further support earlier detection of machinery issues, reducing the likelihood of unplanned downtime.
