VIKAND appointed healthcare partner for Salén Ship Management’s expedition cruise ships

Global maritime healthcare solutions provider VIKAND announces a new partnership with Salén Ship Management, reinforcing a shared commitment to delivering high-quality medical care and reducing operational risk across expedition cruise operations in some of the world’s most remote regions.

Effective 1 May 2026, VIKAND will provide comprehensive, end-to-end medical management services onboard Island Sky and Hebridean Sky, two expedition-style ships operating worldwide on long-term charter with Noble Caledonia.

VIKAND will provide comprehensive medical management services, including full oversight of onboard healthcare delivery and coordinated management of all affiliated medical services and solutions. This integrated approach ensures seamless delivery across all aspects of medical care, allowing Salén Ship Management to focus on safe, efficient expedition operations with confidence that health and medical services are expertly managed.

Operating in remote environments where access to shoreside medical infrastructure is limited, Salén Ship Management required a turnkey solution capable of fully supporting onboard medical operations while maintaining the highest standards of care and regulatory compliance. VIKAND’s fully integrated model, covering clinical oversight, logistics, administration, and support services, provides a single-source solution that eliminates the need for multiple third-party providers.

“We are proud to partner with Salén Ship Management to support its expedition operations with a fully integrated medical solution,” says Amy White, VP Medical Operations & Partnerships at VIKAND. “In remote itineraries, where every decision counts, our experience helps mitigate risk and ensure consistent, high-quality care. By working closely with both shipboard and shoreside teams, we become a natural extension of their operations.”

With each ship equipped with an onboard infirmary and a dedicated doctor as part of the crew, VIKAND’s support enhances existing capabilities through expert-led oversight and seamless coordination of all medical services. The partnership draws on highly skilled medical professionals with maritime clinical experience, delivering care tailored to the unique challenges of expedition cruising.

Linn Milton, Managing Director, Salén Ship Management, explains: “We wanted to develop and modernise our medical services onboard our fleet, and partnering with VIKAND allows us to consolidate medical operations under one trusted provider, improving efficiency, standardisation, and the overall quality of care for our guests and crew.”

As Salén Ship Management continues to operate in complex and remote environments, this partnership marks a significant step in strengthening its onboard medical capabilities. By consolidating services under single provider VIKAND, Salén will benefit from greater consistency, improved operational efficiency, and enhanced support for both guests and crew across its expedition programme.
