IRClass Academy advances port security capacity

IRCLASS Academy, a premier maritime and security training institution, successfully conducted the fourth batch of its specialised training programme for personnel of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), reinforcing its commitment to strengthening maritime security and capacity building in India.

CISF has been designated as the Recognised Security Organisation (RSO) for ports by the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, entrusting it with a critical role in safeguarding the nation’s maritime infrastructure. In line with this responsibility, the training programme was designed to equip CISF personnel with the knowledge and practical skills required for effective implementation of the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code across Indian ports.

The intensive two-week programme combined theoretical learning with hands-on training. The first week, conducted at Rashtriya Raksha University, Gandhinagar, focused on regulatory frameworks, compliance requirements, and the practical aspects of ISPS Code implementation. The second week provided deeper insights into the maritime industry, port operations, and the specific safety and security challenges that CISF personnel are likely to encounter in their role as an RSO.

The programme featured interactive sessions, case studies, and practical workshops aimed at enhancing operational preparedness and decision-making capabilities in real-world scenarios.

Speaking at the certificate distribution ceremony, Mr. P. K. Mishra, MD, IRS said, “We see significant potential to further strengthen our collaboration with CISF through expanded support, including the development of floating assets and the introduction of customised training modules tailored to their operational requirements. Such initiatives will play a crucial role in enhancing operational readiness and further strengthening security at port facilities across the country.”
