New report provides status update on shipping decarbonisation

The Global Maritime Forum’s (GMF) Getting to Zero Coalition has just released its inaugural ‘Action Framework: Documenting actions towards decarbonising shipping’, the first report of its kind to assess industry-wide progress toward full decarbonisation by 2050.

The Getting to Zero Coalition is an alliance of over 200 organisations spanning maritime, energy, infrastructure, and finance. More than 75 of those companies contributed data on 26 critical actions, covering everything from target-setting and policy engagement to investment in vessels, fuels, and supporting infrastructure. Average progress scores across five action areas ranged from 23% to 58%, reflecting both momentum and significant gaps.

Each action includes a spotlight on best practices, showcasing real-world case studies from companies leading the transition.

Designed as a benchmarking and accountability tool, the report helps stakeholders identify barriers, scale effective solutions, and accelerate coordinated climate action across the maritime sector.

The full report can be downloaded from the GMF website.
