‘Planet, People and Performance are inseparable’: OneOcean

On the occasion of World Maritime Day, Alex Mangan, Chief Marketing Officer of OneOcean, writes:

“For years Lloyd’s Register OneOcean and Ocean Technologies Group have served the maritime industry – supporting seafarers, championing safety, sustainability, and performance – before coming together now, as OneOcean, with one vision, one purpose, and working as one team for the future of maritime.

The IMO’s World Maritime Day theme: ‘Our Ocean, Our Obligation, Our Opportunity’ highlights the biggest challenges facing the industry today and resonates with OneOcean’s mission to connect ship and shore, people and performance, technology and sustainability around the three pillars of planet, performance and people.

‘Our Ocean’, highlights the vital importance of the oceans all around us, covering 71% of the planet, oceans are vital for life and trade.  But digital innovations today can enable a vessel operator to plan voyages with increased confidence—balancing safety, compliance, and fuel efficiency—while managers onshore gain real-time visibility of fleet performance.

In turn, a greater level of operational information, supports compliance with increasing regulatory change, helps to reduce emissions and speeds the adoption of low carbon technologies, protecting the health of our oceans and our planet.

‘Our Obligation’ demonstrates our commitment to supporting and empowering the industry’s human capital, whether that’s through training, certification, scheduling or by fostering a culture of improved safety and wellbeing, both our seafarers working onboard vessels and those supporting them onshore – ensuring that they don’t just succeed but thrive.

Last but not least, the digital transition is ‘Our Opportunity’. New technology is providing maritime professionals with unrivalled insights, enabling them to seize opportunity through better planning, monitoring and voyage optimization, thereby maximising efficiency and unlocking sustainable growth.

But all three of these are inextricably linked.

When we prioritise people, we strengthen performance. Better performance drives more informed operations and more effective crews. And when crews are empowered, the impact reaches further—fewer mistakes, smarter planning, and a reduced environmental footprint.

Planet, People and Performance are inseparable – it is indeed Our Ocean, Our Obligation and Our Opportunity.”
