LISW25 Board of Advisors announces Nick Shaw as Deputy Chair
London International Shipping Week 2025 (LISW25) is delighted to announce the appointment of Nick Shaw (pictured), CEO, the International Group of P & I Clubs, as Deputy Chair of the LISW25 Board of Advisors (BOA).
Announcing Mr Shaw’s appointment, Denis Petropoulos, Board of Advisors Chair, said: “I’m very pleased to welcome Nick Shaw as our Deputy Chair. The LISW25 Board of Advisors has been superb in guiding our efforts and ensuring this year’s event maximises the opportunities for maritime trade. As Deputy Chair Nick will help boost this leadership and I look forward to working closely with him.”
Nick Shaw was appointed Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the International Group of P&I Clubs in July 2019 and helps co-ordinate the collective activities of the 12 International Group member Clubs including in particular the Clubs’ pooling and reinsurance arrangements, which provide P&I cover for nearly 90% of the global shipping fleet. He regularly represents the International Group at Shipping, Trade and Insurance industry events and in communication at government and intergovernmental levels. He is an active participant at CMI, BIMCO and IUMI amongst other industry associations.
Prior to his work at the International Group, Nick practised in Shipping and Marine Insurance law from 1990-2019, and has extensive knowledge and experience of the Shipping Industry and the P&I world coupled with considerable high level management experience gained as the Shipping Group Practice leader at the former Richards Butler from 2003-2007, and, following its merger with US based international law firm Reed Smith as Global Shipping & Transportation Industry Group Leader from 2007-2019. He has extensive experience of the Asian market having lived and worked in Hong Kong for two years and managed teams there and in Singapore. He has also managed office teams in New York, Greece and Paris.
Accepting the appointment, Mr Shaw said: “During my 35 years working in the Shipping industry I have seen first-hand the important role that London plays in keeping the wheels of global shipping moving. Whether it be through having IMO, the global standard setting authority for the safety, security and environmental performance of international shipping based in London, plus being the base for many of the other international organisations that support shipping such as ICS, IACS and the IG to name but a few, London is a natural home for shipping business. The market-leading maritime shipbroking, legal, finance, ship’s technical and insurance services in London underpin a vibrant maritime services sector and LISW helps to bring all the players together and also attract the global shipping community to look at key opportunities for future growth in this industry sector.
“I am honoured and privileged to be asked to take on this additional role in support of Denis and the LISW team”
