The Shipowners Club announces Marcus Tarrant as new CEO

The Shipowners’ Club, the leading insurer for smaller and specialist vessels, is pleased to announce that Marcus Tarrant will take on the role of CEO of the Club on 4 June 2026. Our current CEO, Simon Peacock, will be retiring from the Club at the same time.

Marcus has worked at the Club since 2014 and is currently the Club’s Chief Financial Officer (CFO). His appointment as CEO is subject to regulatory approval.

The Club’s Chair, Donald A. MacLeod KC, commented: “Simon has done exactly what the Club’s Board asked of him since we announced him taking on the CEO role in 2022. He has overseen continued measured growth in the Club and has led the delivery of ever-improving service to our Members, wherever they are in the world. He leaves the CEO role at a time when the Club is in a position of enviable strength in all facets of the Club’s strategy. On behalf of the Club and the Board I thank Simon for his commitment over the past 10 years and wish him every success in the future as he moves to spend time with his family and on his non-executive career.

Marcus will, for sure, apply his considerable energy and expertise to continuing the development of the Shipowners’ Club. The smooth transition, which has been in the making since Marcus took on the CFO role in May 2023, ensures that the superb service that the Club is known for will continue into the future. To be able to make an internal appointment has considerable benefits, not least the continuation of the culture of the Club, with its Members and their brokers front and centre of everything we do.”

Marcus Tarrant commented: “I am incredibly proud to be taking on this role. The Shipowners’ Club has been a fantastic place to work ever since I walked through the door in 2014. I will be relentless in my efforts to continue to ensure that is the case and that, as a result, I and all of my colleagues will continue to see the Club go from strength to strength in the coming years.”

Simon Peacock commented: “It has been a genuine pleasure to serve the Shipowners’ Club over the past 10 years. Marcus will be a superb CEO. His success in this role will undoubtedly be enhanced by the commitment, enthusiasm and expertise of all his colleagues, which is something that I have been enormously grateful for. Equally, the support of such an engaged and expert Board will also help the Club continue to flourish. I wish Marcus good luck and enjoyment.”

The Club’s commitment to supporting and developing its people remains central to its success. Across its global offices, the Club will continue to invest in leadership development and ensure that its collaborative culture and Member-first approach endure long into the future.

The Club is in the process of identifying a replacement for Marcus in the CFO role, ensuring continued strength and leadership within the Executive team.
