The Hood collaborates with TOMSP to spotlight young maritime talent

Last month, The Hood joined forces with the Ten Outstanding Maritime Students of the Philippines (TOMSP) awards ceremony just a few days after World Maritime Day on 25th September. The event honoured the country’s most promising maritime students, recognising their academic excellence, leadership and commitment to the industry.

Nominees from maritime academies across the Philippines shared examples of their own industry contributions, leadership, social responsibility, and plans for future improvement to the judging panel. The event also included a category for Top Woman Maritime Student of the Year, highlighting women’s growing role in the sector.

As the platinum sponsor of the event, The Hood was represented on the judging panel by Founder and Managing Director, Josephine Le, who served alongside other industry experts and academic professionals.

“The maritime industry often hears negative stories about the challenges faced by young cadets," said Ms. Le (pictured, with TOMSP 2025 winners). "This event offered a different perspective, highlighting the ambition and leadership of these students as the future of the industry.

“I’m impressed and confident that the next generation of seafarers will be creative, full of leadership qualities, and driven by aspirations to change the world. Their passion and potential are truly inspiring, and it motivates us to do even more to support them.”

All finalists received an additional gift from The Hood in recognition of their dedication and achievement.

The awards aimed to spotlight emerging talent at a time when the industry faced significant challenges with recruiting and retaining skilled professionals.
