SmartSea launches SmartJourney and SmartAccess to streamline maritime crew movements and access management

Maritime technology provider SmartSea has introduced SmartJourney and SmartAccess, two integrated platforms designed to help operators to co-ordinate crew transit and manage secure access across vessels, terminals, and offshore facilities.

The complementary solutions connect crew travel logistics with digital identity and access control, providing ship managers, owners, and port operators with a single, coordinated view of personnel movements from departure to embarkation.

Mapping crew journeys across international transport links, local port services, and vessel schedules often relies on disjointed systems, making transit planning vulnerable to delays and can be a huge administrative burden. SmartJourney links flight schedules, local transit, lodging details, and crewing rosters within a single interface. By providing transit status in real time, the system helps crewing desks anticipate schedule changes early and manage crew handovers more efficiently. SmartAccess, meanwhile, focuses on terminal and gangway management. Deployed at port entry points, security gates, gangways, and offshore platforms, it checks personnel credentials, required certifications, and entry permissions before granting access.

SmartAccess also incorporates SmartSea’s FacePod biometric units to match physical site entry with authorised workforce records. The system provides an automated check to confirm that arriving crew members and contractors carry the valid documentation and approvals required under port and vessel safety guidelines, including ISPS standards.

Kris Vedat (pictured), CEO of SmartSea, comments: "Crew movements involve ongoing coordination between travel coordinators, port agents, technical managers, and vessels. When systems operate independently, small itinerary changes can create scheduling difficulties and extra administrative work. SmartJourney and SmartAccess can offer operators a clear picture of who is scheduled to arrive, their current transit status, and whether their site credentials are in order, helping teams manage crew transfers safely and reliably."

The launch reflects SmartSea’s focus on practical digital solutions for maritime workforce management. SmartJourney and SmartAccess are available for commercial shipping fleets, offshore support vessels (OSVs), marine terminals, and offshore energy sites.
