The Innovation Quay to showcase innovative power of port of Rotterdam during World Port Days

From Friday 4 to Sunday 6 September, the Innovation Quay on Koninginnehoofd and Dolf Henkesplein in Rotterdam will be one of the highlights of the World Port Days. At this 4,000-square-metre high-tech expo, companies, knowledge institutions, public authorities and young talent come together to demonstrate how innovation is making the port cleaner, smarter and safer.

The port of Rotterdam faces major challenges. The energy transition, digitalisation and geopolitical developments demand new solutions. The Innovation Quay shows how the port is continually evolving and why innovation matters for the future of the Netherlands and Europe.

Visitors will discover the latest technologies and how we are shaping the port of the future together. Live demonstrations of uncrewed vehicles, offshore cargo drones, a flying fire engine and 3D-printed ship hulls can be seen on the quay.

In addition to digitalisation, sustainability is also a key focus. Container batteries, electric and retrofitted terminal vehicles, a hydrogen-powered boat and examples of circular plastic recycling will be on display along the quay. These innovations show how the port is working on the energy and raw materials transition.

A popular attraction is the Waterstof Inspirience (Hydrogen Inspirience) from Netherland Waterstofland, of which the Port of Rotterdam Authority is one of the partners. Here, visitors are introduced to hydrogen in an interactive way and discover how this energy carrier is produced, stored, transported and used. They can also learn about innovative hydrogen projects and put their knowledge to the test with a rowing challenge focused on hydrogen storage. The ‘inspirience’ ends with a Hydrogen Mission Quiz. In this accessible and engaging way, visitors discover the role hydrogen can play in making industry, shipping and transport more sustainable.

The Innovation Quay makes complex technologies easy to understand and experience for a wide audience. Visitors get a unique insight into the developments shaping the port of tomorrow and discover how innovation contributes to a strong economy, a sustainable supply of energy and smart supply chains.
