PSA Singapore celebrates nation’s 60th birthday with container display tribute at Tanjong Pagar Terminal
To mark Singapore’s 60th year of independence (SG60), PSA Singapore (PSA) has unveiled a container display featuring the messages ‘SG60 ♥’ and ‘PSA ♥ SG’ at Tanjong Pagar Terminal – Singapore’s first container terminal opened in 1972 – as a tribute to the nation’s containerisation and maritime journey.
The container display will be illuminated nightly from 25 July to 13 August 2025, serving as a vibrant fixture in the cityscape as Singapore prepares to celebrate National Day. Spanning 57 metres by 101 metres by 14.6 metres, the visual display assembled by PSA over 32 hours was realised through the strong support of 14 shipping line customers, who contributed a total of 271 containers.
Beyond its visual impact, the display also symbolises PSA’s strong and enduring partnership with its customers and stakeholders across the maritime and supply chain ecosystem. The collaborative efforts reflect the unity and shared commitment of the industry in celebrating SG60, reinforcing their ongoing support for Singapore’s position as a leading global maritime hub. The participating shipping lines are CMA CGM, COSCO Shipping Lines, Evergreen Marine, Hapag-Lloyd, HMM, Maersk, Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC), Ocean Network Express (ONE), Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL), Pacific International Lines (PIL), Regional Container Lines (RCL), Samudera Shipping Line, Wan Hai Lines and Yang Ming Marine Transport Corporation.
The container display is one of several highlights of PSA’s SG60 celebrations, which also include a 10-kilometre competitive charity run and a 5-kilometre mass walk through the City Terminals on 25 July 2025. The walk and run offer employees a rare opportunity to experience Tanjong Pagar and Keppel Terminals on foot, before the site is redeveloped as part of Singapore’s urban transformation plan after 2027. Proceeds from the charity run will be donated to Care Corner Singapore, a non-profit organisation providing social and healthcare services to uplift and promote the well-being of those in need.
Mr Ong Kim Pong, Group CEO, PSA International said, “In commemorating SG60 with this symbolic container formation, PSA pays tribute to our nation, our pioneers, our people and our partners – for every container moved and every connection made. PSA’s evolution from a Singapore port to a trusted global network has been driven by enduring collaboration with like-minded stakeholders. As global trade faces increasing complexity, PSA is committed to advancing this collaboration and transforming supply chains by connecting isolated nodes into an intelligent, coordinated network that delivers reliability and resilience at scale, thereby strengthening global trade and Singapore’s role as a vital maritime hub.”
