Procureship and ReFlow partner to launch Scope 3 emissions tool to support structured climate reporting in maritime supply chains
Leading e-procurement platform provider Procureship has partnered with Copenhagen-based climate data specialist ReFlow to launch a new Scope 3 emissions solution to enable ship owners, operators, and managers to prepare for new climate-related reporting requirements by mapping emissions across their procurement value chains.
As shipping stakeholders begin to respond to new requirements set out by the EU Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), there is a greater need for documented data on the Scope 3 emissions of commercial vessels calling at EU ports. Consequently, demand is rising for increased transparency among maritime procurement professionals seeking to remain compliant.
This challenge is compounded by the growing complexity of modern procurement processes, with shipping companies purchasing thousands of products across dozens of vessels each year, often using hundreds of suppliers, most of whom lack the knowledge or data on the emissions associated with their supply chains.
The newly launched ‘EmissionPassport’ solution from Procureship and ReFlow now offers a convenient and structured way to collect product-level Scope 3 emissions data. Powered by a custom-built climate calculation engine, the solution, which is integrated directly into the Procureship platform, delivers verified, scientific Scope 3 emissions data without disrupting daily procurement workflows.
While climate data is not used to drive procurement decisions within the platform, EmissionPassport ensures that critical emissions insights are available and traceable across vessel-level activities, providing a valuable foundation for internal climate assessments and external reporting.
“Shipowners and operators are managing increasingly complex data challenges as they prepare for new climate reporting requirements,” said Mogens Thyssen (pictured, right), Chief Commercial Officer at ReFlow. “By embedding ReFlow’s Scope 3 data capabilities within Procureship, we’re making it easier for maritime players to access structured, science-based climate data that supports long-term compliance and transparency.”
"With this collaboration, Procureship and ReFlow are building robust data structures that support trust, accuracy, and future climate disclosure for procurement professionals in the maritime sector, while giving them the confidence to navigate the complexities of sustainability legislation,” he added.
The EmissionPassport also supports alignment with emerging methodologies through collaboration with the International Marine Purchasing Association (IMPA) and its Maritime Environmental Footprint (IMEF) Initiative, working toward a shared climate data standard for maritime procurement.
“Sustainability managers and procurement professionals in the maritime sector are facing a major challenge when it comes to understanding their Scope 3 carbon emission levels of their fleet. This solution, in conjunction with ReFlow, will build the data backbone needed for Scope 3 climate reporting,” said Carsten Schmidt (left), Vice President of Sales at Procureship.
“Shipping needs to prepare for changes to emissions regulations from governments around the world. Over the next decade, the addition of Scope 3 emissions management will provide greater opportunities for shipping companies looking to run greener operations. Our integration with ReFlow will help our users comply with changing emissions regulations, which are likely to be challenging over the next few years,” he added.
The launch of the EmissionPassport is Procureship’s latest update that helps to support decarbonisation strategies of ship owners, operators and managers by highlighting environmental impact hotspots, identifying opportunities for action, and improving decision-making capabilities across the procurement supply chain.
