MACS and STINNES announce strategic merger in multipurpose liner sector 

MACS Maritime Carrier Shipping GmbH & Co. (MACS) and HUGO STINNES SCHIFFAHRT GmbH (STINNES), both leading provider of Multipurpose (MPP) liner services are pleased to announce a merger, forming one of the largest and most reliable multipurpose ocean liner shipping companies in the Atlantic Ocean.

The combined entity, MACS Maritime Carrier Shipping GmbH & Co., will operate a fleet of over 15 vessels, serving more than 20 ports across 16 countries, and will remain headquartered in Hamburg.

This strategic merger represents a significant milestone for both sister companies and is expected to deliver substantial value to customers, employees, and shareholders. By combining complementary strengths in fleet capabilities, logistics networks, and environmental innovation, MACS will be uniquely positioned to lead the future of sustainable and resilient Trans-Atlantic shipping.

As part of this merger, MACS Maritime Carrier Shipping GmbH & Co. will become the universal legal successor to STINNES and continue to honor all existing contracts, agreements, purchase orders, and other legal commitments previously entered into by HUGO STINNES SCHIFFAHRT GmbH, without interruption or modification.

Please be advised that:

-        As a result of the merger, MACS becomes the universal successor to STINNES with all contracts, rights, liabilities and obligations of STINNES transferring automatically to MACS by operation of law.

-        There is no need for customers or service providers to take any action unless otherwise notified.

-        All invoices, correspondence, and communications relating to such contracts should, from the e..ective date onward, be directed to MACS in Hamburg at the address and contact details listed below.

STINNES Headquarters in Rostock will be closed by December 31st, 2025. STINNES Employees will operate from the joint Hamburg Office as from January 1st, 2026. Your well-known contact persons in Lines Management, Operations, Accounting and IT will remain the same. New Email addresses and telephone number will be distributed soon.

The well-known Stinnes MPP Service ‘SANMEX’ between North Europe and Mexico / US Gulf v.v. will be renamed in ‘STINNES Service’ keeping the 200-year-old brand name alive.
