LISW25 Headline Conference: Themes and sessions announced

The Management of Paradox in Global Shipping will be the main theme under discussion at the London International Shipping Week 2025 (LISW25) headline conference, to be held at the IMO headquarters in London on September 17th.

Industry leaders and major politicians will discuss a number of key issues such as the systemic change to the shipping supply chain in its widest context; what the implications are for the industry as a consequence; where does London reside amid the disruption we have seen in global supply chains; and what is London’s future role in the market.

The conference, which will be moderated by Michael Parker (pictured), member of the LISW25 Board of Advisors and Chairman of Global Shipping, Logistics & Offshore at Citi, and sponsored by Tsakos Energy Navigation (TEN), will explore the role of global shipping in enhancing economic interconnectivity, driving growth, creating prosperity, ensuring security, and facilitating decarbonisation. It will also address the growing threats to the geopolitical framework underpinning global shipping and the UK’s leadership in safeguarding its future.

The first panel session of the conference will discuss whether shipping can save globalisation. Against the backdrop of the view that the post-WWII consensus is being challenged and the legitimacy of multilateral institutions is being questioned, Globalisation in under threat. But what does this mean for an industry predicated on global trade? Can the resilience and efficiency of the global shipping industry make a case for interconnected economies and foster a resurgence in globalism?”

Under the title of ‘Does international regulation work in the contemporary geopolitical environment?’, the next session will ask if global regulation can be effectively enforced in an era of increasingly polarised economic and political agendas. Does the consensus evident at the IMO prove the enduring importance of multilateral institutions and how will the industry adapt to the IMOs regulatory framework?
