Hill Dickinson strengthens Singapore team with new shipping partner

Leading international law firm Hill Dickinson has announced the appointment of Ryan Tan, who has joined the firm's Singapore office as a partner in its ship finance team.

Ryan’s appointment will further bolster Hill Dickinson’s ship finance capabilities and proficiency across the Asia Pacific region. His arrival comes at a time of continued international expansion for the firm, particularly in the finance sector, having recently entered into formal alliances with Marshall Islands law firm Reeder Simpson & Magee, as well as with USA-based Alley Maass.

With over 14 years of experience, Ryan (pictured. Right) brings a wealth of expertise in asset finance, corporate finance, project finance, leasing structures and loan restructuring, with a primary focus in the maritime sector. He has represented lenders, borrowers, lessors and lessees on a wide range of transactions including bank loans, lease financings, ECA-backed facilities, sale and purchase transactions and reviews of shipbuilding contracts and charterparty agreements. Notably, he regularly advises on cross-border sale and leaseback transactions involving PRC leasing houses.

Joining from Watson Farley & Williams, Ryan has been involved in several high profile and award-winning financing transactions and is qualified in both Singapore and Hong Kong.

He will work in close conjunction with Hong Kong partners Gary Wong and Janice Lee, as well as with Piraeus-based ship finance and banking partner Jasel Chauhan, and with their respective teams.

Andrew Lee (pictured, left), head of the Singapore office at Hill Dickinson, said: “Appointing top quality talent is a key part of our international growth and Ryan’s arrival will strengthen the high calibre services we provide in Singapore and overseas. Our team has grown to become one of the largest and most active marine and trade teams in the region. With such strong asset finance expertise, Ryan will make a valuable addition to our offering.”

Ryan Tan, ship finance partner at Hill Dickinson, said: “As global trade becomes increasingly complex, I’m excited to join Hill Dickinson to help provide the highest level of service and advice to our clients. The firm has a rich history in the maritime sector, with the Singapore office developing a fantastic reputation in recent years as a go-to for all marine related legal issues in the region. I’m looking forward to working with the team at Hill Dickinson and contributing to the firm’s continued success and global presence in my new role.”
