Hill Dickinson strengthens Piraeus ship finance team with new partner hire

Leading commercial law firm Hill Dickinson has announced the appointment of Dimitris Karamacheras, who has joined the firm as a shipping partner in its Piraeus office.

With over 16 years of experience in shipping law, Dimitris (pictured, right) will further strengthen Hill Dickinson’s ship finance and transactional practice in Piraeus, expanding the firm’s reach across Europe and the Middle East.

Joining from Watson Farley & Williams, Dimitris has advised on numerous high-profile ship finance transactions for a wide range of clients, including institutional lenders, private equity funds, shipowners and operators. His work covers all aspects of loan and security documentation, lease structures, restructurings and portfolio transfers.

He has extensive expertise in shipping finance and sale-and-leaseback transactions, as well as in commercial shipping matters such as shipbuilding contracts, ship management, charterparties and ship sale and purchase transactions. His experience also includes advising banking syndicates on complex debt restructurings and shipowners on M&A transactions.

His appointment comes at a time of continued growth for Hill Dickinson’s industry-leading marine practice, including the recent hire of commodities partner Andrew Meads in July. Dimitris will work closely with Jasel Chauhan, head of the Piraeus office, and Anthony Paizes, head of ship finance in Piraeus.

Jasel Chauhan (pictured, left), head of the Piraeus office at Hill Dickinson, said: “Hill Dickinson’s shipping team in Piraeus has continued to attract some of the industry’s leading professionals, and Dimitris is no exception. He is a natural fit for the team, highly regarded within the industry for his market-leading ship finance expertise and commercial approach. Dimitris is an outstanding addition to the team and his appointment reinforces our confidence in the European and Middle Eastern markets and our plans for further sustained growth.”

Dimitris Karamacheras, shipping finance partner at Hill Dickinson, said: “The regulatory environment for shipping transactions and ship finance continues to evolve, so I’m excited to join Hill Dickinson at a time when our clients need practical, commercially focused advice to navigate these changes. Working closely with one of the most cohesive teams in the market, I look forward to supporting clients to navigate market disruption and drive forward with their commercial and financing transactions.”
