Panama’s Directorate of Seafarers achieves ISO 9001:2015 recertification and strengthens commitment to quality management

The General Directorate of Seafarers (DGGM) of the Panama Maritime Authority (AMP) has obtained the recertification of its Quality Management System (QMS) under the ISO 9001:2015 standard, following an audit conducted by Bureau Veritas Certification, a global leader in certification services.

Over the course of five days, the DGGM’s strategic and support processes were evaluated, verifying compliance with national and international regulations related to seafarers.

The audit highlighted as strengths the automation of processes through digital tools, the commitment of senior management, and a control and traceability system that ensures efficiency and transparency in services.

Felipe Arias, Director of the DGGM, emphasised that this achievement reflects the collective effort of the team and “motivates us to continue improving continuously.” He also noted that the recertification has a direct impact on the competitiveness of the AMP and the global maritime sector, strengthening training, certification, and services for seafarers.

With a presence in 80 countries and more than 121,000 certified companies, Bureau Veritas reaffirms through this recertification Panama’s position as a benchmark in quality, efficiency, and sustainability within the maritime industry.
