Two IRS-classed vessels among three Indian Navy platforms commissioned in presence of Prime Minister

Indian Register of Shipping (IRS) is proud to announce that INS Agray and INS Sanshodhak, two of the three Indian Navy vessels simultaneously commissioned and dedicated to the nation in the presence of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji on 21st Jun 2026, have been built under IRS Classification.

The induction of these vessels marks another significant milestone for India's indigenous shipbuilding programme and underscores the pivotal role played by IRS in supporting the design, construction, quality assurance and certification of advanced naval platforms.

Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Ltd. (GRSE), Kolkata built and delivered both the vessels in accordance with IRS Naval Rules, which demonstrated the strength of India's maritime technical capabilities and its commitment to self-reliance in defence manufacturing.

INS Agray, an Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft (ASW-SWC), has been designed to enhance the Indian Navy's anti-submarine warfare and coastal surveillance capabilities. Equipped with advanced underwater detection and engagement systems, the vessel represents a key addition to India's maritime security architecture.

INS Sanshodhak, a Survey Vessel (Large), is equipped with state-of-the-art hydrographic survey equipment and will support nautical charting, oceanographic research and maritime domain awareness. The vessel will contribute significantly to safe navigation and maritime operations across India's areas of interest.

The induction of these vessels reflects the growing maturity of India's indigenous defence shipbuilding ecosystem and highlights the successful collaboration between the Indian Navy, Indian shipyards, IRS and the wider maritime industry.

Commenting on the development, Cdr K K Dhawan from IRS said: "We are honoured that two of the three naval platforms inducted in the presence of the Hon'ble Prime Minister were classed by IRS. INS Agray and INS Sanshodhak are a testament to India's rapidly advancing indigenous shipbuilding capabilities and the strength of its maritime industrial ecosystem. IRS remains committed to supporting the Indian Navy and Indian shipyards through world-class classification and technical assurance services that enable safe, reliable and globally benchmarked naval platforms."
