Cyprus Deputy Minister of Shipping addresses ‘Maritime Cyprus 2025’
Speaking on the opening morning of the Maritime Cyprus Conference in Lemesos/Limassol yesterday, the Deputy Minister of Shipping of the Republic of Cyprus, Ms Marina Hadjimanolis, extolled the strengths of the Cyprus maritime cluster.
“Since the early 1960s, Cyprus has nurtured its maritime identity, creating a long and proud maritime tradition,” she said. “From our early days as a strategic hub in the Mediterranean, to becoming a global leader in ship management and a proud sovereign flag state – with more than sixty years of tradition and experience, and ranked amongst the top – our journey reflects ambition, collaboration, and a commitment to excellence.
“Ammochostos was the first port of registry. A decade later, following the Turkish invasion in 1974, Lemesos became the new port of registry, marking the beginning of a new chapter in Cyprus shipping.
“The success story of Cyprus shipping is rooted in the close collaboration between the public and private sectors, working together to enhance competitiveness and quality. Partnerships with the Cyprus Union of Shipowners and the Cyprus Shipping Chamber, together with a powerful industry, exemplify this productive collaboration – demonstrating that collective effort and mutual respect are the cornerstones of enduring success.”
Concluding her address, Ms Hadjimanolis said: “To all participants here, let us continue to innovate, collaborate, and invest in the future of shipping. Let us ensure that shipping will remain competitive and resilient. The sea connects us all, and the choices we make today will shape not only Cyprus shipping but also the global maritime community for generations to come.”
