Blue Autonomy opens online academy for ship performance professionals

Athens-based Blue Autonomy has this week opened its Blue Autonomy Academy (academy.blueautonomy.gr), an online school of 39 self-paced courses on vessel performance, maritime data and the regulations that price them.

The courses are written for technical superintendents, performance analysts, technical and fleet managers, naval architects, marine engineers, and the chartering and operations staff who meet performance figures in charter parties. They are grouped into nine specialisations, from ship resistance and propulsion to hull and propeller performance under ISO 19030, speed trials under ISO 15016, bunker quantity and quality, speed and consumption claims, and the CII, EU ETS and FuelEU Maritime regimes.

Each paid course ends in a graded examination and a certificate that anyone, an employer included, can verify online. Each paid specialisation ends in a capstone project. Seven courses are free in full, among them a complete specialisation on maritime decarbonisation and compliance, and the first lesson of every paid course can be read free of charge.

"Behind every number a ship reports there is a calculation someone made," said Christos Papandreou (pictured), CEO and Founder of Blue Autonomy. "The tonnes on a bunker delivery note come from a sounding, a density and a temperature correction. The saving after a hull cleaning comes from a reference period and a weather filter that someone chose. The Academy teaches the people who sign for these numbers to take them apart, check each input and stand behind the result, whether the question comes from a charterer, a verifier or the office."

Courses are bought once, with no subscription. Until 20 November 2026, the early-bird code ACADEMY25 gives 25% off every course and specialisation. Companies buying for several people receive a single offer and invoice on request.
