CMA CGM signs LOI for six new 1700 TEU dual-fuel LNG containerships built in India
The CMA CGM Group announces it has become the first major international container shipping company to enter into an agreement for new LNG-powered vessels to be built in India – six dual-fuel 1,700 TEU units at Cochin Shipyard Ltd (CSL).
Fully aligned with India’s maritime development vision, the Group already reflagged four vessels under the Indian registry in 2025, will have recruited 1,000 Indian seafarers by the end of the year, and plans to hire an additional 500 seafarers in 2026 (pictured: CMA CGM vessel calling Mumbai).
The six 1,700 TEU LNG-powered newbuild containerships will be registered under the Indian flag, underscoring CMA CGM’s strong willingness to support the Indian Maritime policy implemented by the authorities under the guidance of PM Modi, advancing towards a sustainable maritime future.
