Cyan Sentinel expands its cadet programme
Offshore operator Cyan Sentinel has strengthened its long-term commitment to developing future maritime officers, with cadets praising the company’s support, culture and hands-on experience across its fleet.
The Uk-based company has now supported and sponsored 43 cadets through its cadetship programme, with seven completing their training this year. A further 10 new cadets – six deck and four engineering – joined the programme in August and September.
Recent cadets highlighted the professionalism and willingness of crews and officers to share their experience, with engineering cadet Michael Botha (pictured) describing every day on board as “an opportunity to learn something new.”
Another cadet, Evan Hope said: “If you show willingness, you receive the full attention of the officers. The training culture – drills, hands-on tasks, and online learning – has made me more confident and far more aware of risk.”
Cadets have also praised Cyan Sentinel’s structured approach to learning, exposure to real operational duties and strong emphasis on maritime safety and compliance. This combination has helped create a smooth transition into officer roles, with several cadets already taking up positions within the company.
“Knowing Cyan Sentinel offered employment once qualified gave me a clear target,” said Evan. “Three years of real experience meant the step up to officer level didn’t feel overwhelming.”
The variety across the company’s multi-role fleet also contributes significantly to cadet development. Michael Botha commented, “Joining different vessels meant adapting to new routines and machinery, making new friendships and adding so much to my development.”
Cadets also reflected on the strong sense of camaraderie on board, with one describing a memorable Christmas at sea involving a captain dressed as Santa, festive food and crew-wide competitions.
Name Jonathan Mitchell, managing director of Cyan Sentinel says: “Our cadets are the future of our business. Their professionalism and enthusiasm strengthen our fleet, and we are proud to support them from their first day at sea through to qualification.”
