Dag von Appen named CMA Commodore

The Connecticut Maritime Association (CMA), set to hold its annual Shipping 2026 event in Stamford, CT on 10-12 March, has announced the recipient of its prestigious annual honour - now renamed the CMA Jim Lawrence Commodore Award after the passing of the association’s founder earlier this year.

The new Commodore is Dag von Appen, who was at the helm of Ultranav, global player in multiple shipping sectors, for over 20 years before stepping aside in 2022. He remains on the Ultranav Board of Directors and as non-Executive Chairman of Navigator Gas, which had combined with Ultranav’s sister company Ultragas in 2021.

“This award also reflects the collective effort of the many colleagues and partners at Ultranav and Navigator, with whom I have shared this journey,” said von Appen. “It stands as a tribute to Jim’s remarkable legacy, and I am deeply humbled to be part of this celebration at CMA Shipping 2026.”
