AkzoNobel unveils Intersleek 2120 at Posidonia

AkzoNobel's marine coatings brand, International®, has today announced the launch of Intersleek® 2120, a new silicone foul-release coating ideal for the operational and regulatory realities of today’s modern fleet.

Unveiled at Posidonia in Athens, Intersleek 2120 expands access to the proven silicone technology from International® for vessel operators, delivering reliable, predictable performance aligned with day-to-day operating conditions.

Built on three decades of silicone expertise and real-world operational insight, Intersleek 2120 is engineered to support lower total cost across the docking cycle, through reduced application and maintenance.

While silicone foul-release technology has historically been adopted in more specialised vessel segments, a broader group of owners can benefit from silicone-based performance when the solution is aligned to their operating profile, service needs and value expectations.

Intersleek 2120 is designed for vessel operators transitioning from biocidal self-polishing copolymer (SPC) systems who are seeking to improve hull performance in response to increasing regulatory and efficiency pressures. Delivering speed-loss performance of up to 1.4%, it is particularly well suited to vessels such as bulkers and tankers, as well as a wider range of vessel types and operating profiles.

With off-hire and drydock costs running into tens of thousands per day and millions per docking, the right coating can play a key role in reducing time in dock and controlling overall costs. Compared to established industry silicone systems, Intersleek 2120 requires fewer coats within the overall scheme, reducing application time and associated drydock costs¹.

By aligning this performance more closely with real operating conditions, Intersleek 2120 helps operators avoid unnecessary scheme complexity and maintains the core benefits of silicone foul release technology.

Daniel Stapleton, Marine Deep Sea Marketing Manager, commented: “For 30 years, Intersleek has defined what silicone foul release technology can achieve for the maritime industry. With Intersleek2120, we are extending that trusted platform to a broader range of operators with a solution that is designed around their operating profile, performance and value expectations.”

Intersleek 2120 is available globally and joins the comprehensive marine coatings portfolio from International®, including its flagship silicone foul-release solution, Intersleek 1100SR.

AkzoNobel can also provide shipowners and operators with a bespoke performance forecast using Intertrac Vision, its data prediction platform that identifies the optimal coatings choices, including the Intersleek range, for each vessel.
