Steel cut for Cyan Sentinel’s next generation Emergency Response and Rescue vessel

Cyan Sentinel has marked a significant milestone in its fleet development programme with the steel cutting ceremony for its latest 65-metre Energy Support Vessel (ESV). The ceremony took place at the Jiangmen Hangtong Shipbuilding company in Guangdong Province in China which was attended by Cyan Sentinel’s CEO Rory Deans and MD Jonathan Mitchell.

The newbuild, which will become the 15th vessel in the company’s fleet, is scheduled for delivery in Q2 2027 and will strengthen Cyan Sentinel’s position further as a leader in maritime safety and offshore support operations. The shipbuilding contract includes an option for a further three vessels.

Designed as a best-in-class modern ESV, the vessel is designed and built to easily transition between existing and new sectors for Cyan Sentinel including oil and gas, decommissioning, fixed and floating offshore wind as well as government services including fishery protection, carbon capture and offshore hydrogen. It will also be equipped to operate in dynamic offshore environments, reflecting the evolving needs of the North Sea and wider energy sector.

The vessel will incorporate advanced systems aligned with maritime safety and compliance standards, while also embedding the latest thinking in marine environmental management and carbon reduction initiatives in shipping. Energy efficiency measures and future-ready technologies will form a key part of its design, supporting the industry’s transition towards green shipping solutions and more sustainable offshore operations.

Rory Deans, CEO of Cyan Sentinel says: “The steel cutting of this vessel marks another important step in our long-term commitment to investing in a modern, high-performing fleet. As the demands of offshore operations continue to evolve, so too must the vessels that support them.

“This new build reflects our focus on state-of-the-art capability, operational resilience and the transition towards greener, more energy-efficient vessels; it represents our ongoing commitment to our clients’ net zero ambitions. Continued investment in our fleet ensures we are delivering the highest standards of safety, performance and environmental responsibility for our clients.”

The new vessel’s key features include:

• Lowest NOx emission standards

• Diesel/electric propulsion with optional hybrid battery configuration for zero emission operations

• DP2 Multi Role capabilities including cargo capacity of 500Ts on clear deck 375m2 and under deck capacities for fuel oil of 500m3, Pot Water 420m3, Drill Water 1200m3, Recovered Oil 200m3 , MEG, 100m3s,

• SPS and IP accommodation for up to 47 persons

• UK group A ERRV with hybrid daughter craft designed for zero emission operations and optional walk to work gangway providing an operational height range up to 24m

• Underdeck warehousing.
