Derek Hodgson was left in no doubts as to the perception of his job when, in late June 2009, he was unveiled as the new permanent secretary of the International Association of Classification Societies in place of
“When I said I was becoming permanent secretary of IACS people asked me if I’d give them tickets for the match because they thought it was Ajax Football Club.
