Multraship rescues damaged cargo vessel

Towage and salvage company Multraship has brought Janina, a St Vincent and Grenadine-flag cargo ship to safety after it was holed by a fishing vessel while at anchor.

The incident occurred at Buitenbanken, near Rotterdam on July 26 and resulted in a crack in the ship’s hull, leading to flooding of the engine room and crew accommodation. Crew left the vessel in lifeboats and there were no reported injuries.

The ship, owned by Janina Shipping, was kept afloat using portable pumps and then towed to the Scheldepoort Shipyard for a diving inspection. The Janina has now been moved to drydock and is awaiting necessary repairs.
